A group of 15 fiscal conservatives in the House sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., on Tuesday warning that “weakening” the cuts would “undermine both his leadership and the discipline our budget urgently demands.” Instead, the group urged the Senate to pass the rescissions package as-is.

We want to hear from you. Trump has called his administration’s $9 billion package codifying DOGE cuts to public broadcasters and USAID “very important.”
Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) broke with the Senate Republican caucus and opposed both of the procedural votes, citing concerns about the bill — and, apparently, a lack of clarity from the White House on where exactly the cuts will come from.
