A holidaymaker who sheltered in the basement of a hotel in Jamaica during Hurricane Melissa has described how part of the roof fell in and debris hit the building at the height of the storm.

"Seeing the videos and the photographs is one thing, but actually being there in person and seeing the damage is quite another," a local senator said. "It's heartbreaking."

The Union have extended their donation drive to collect items for people affected by Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean. They have also expanded the effort, now including goalkeeper Andre Blake ’s Jamaica and midfielder Danley Jean Jacques’ Haiti.

People have been urged to donate through official channels if they want to support Hurricane-hit Jamaican communities after "several scams" have been set up. Gloucester has been twinned with the Jamaican parish of St Ann for almost 40 years and the city is now rallying together to help those impacted.
