The Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for Merseyside ahead of Manchester United's trip to Anfield to take on their arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday

The UK is in the grip of a wintry spell of weather, with the Met Office issuing two fresh amber warnings for snow and ice for parts of England and Wales over the weekend. Snow has already been spotted in Conwy Valley in Wales.

A Met Office weather map shows a band of snow and hail making its way across Wales on Saturday evening before the first flurries hit the south of Greater Manchester at 8pm. By 8.15pm snow is forecast for the higher ground around Stockport, Tameside and Oldham, before the main band of snow and hail arrives around 8.30pm.

A Whitechapel spokesperson said: "Freezing temperatures for the next week has triggered the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) in Liverpool. This means there is emergency accommodation available to anyone who is sleeping rough in the city. If you see anyone rough sleeping, please call our outreach team, anytime, on 0300 123 2041."
