Tyler Church at the Minnesota Daily was inside Morrill Hall when the UMN Students for a Democratic Society barricaded doors and windows in an occupation.

University officials say the protesters entered the building and caused property damage, including spray paint in the building and windows being broken.

A spokesperson for the University of Minnesota said protestors entered the building around 4 p.m. and began spray painting, breaking interior windows, and barricading the buildings entrances and exits.

Officials at the University of Minnesota released an emergency alert on Monday afternoon, saying protesters have stormed Morrill Hall in Minneapolis.

Police responded to Morrill Hall shortly after the University of Minnesota’s Students for a Democratic Society chapter said it had occupied the building.

Pro-Palestinian protesters took over Morrill Hall Monday afternoon, the building that houses the university's administrative offices. The action follows last spring when protesters camped out on the mall for days.

University officials say the protestors entered the building and are causing property damage and restricting people from entering and exiting the building.
