Washington: The United States has agreed to extradite Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. The decision was announced by US President Donald Trump during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday cleared the extradition of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India, shortly after his bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rana is currently lodged in a jail in Los Angeles. Since 2019, India has maintained Rana was the mastermind behind the terror attacks.

On January 21, the US supreme court rejected 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana's review petition paving way for his extradition to India.

Trump announced Tahawwur Rana's extradition to India for 26/11 attacks, strengthening US-India ties with military, trade and energy agreements.

Donald Trump confirmed the extradition of a suspect involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, with media identifying him as Tahawwur Rana.

After United States approved the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana to India, Congress MP Manish Tewari said that this step will help in "unravelling" the conspiracy behind the attack.
