Legendary Colorado coach Bill McCartney has died at the age of 84, the school announced on Saturday. McCartney, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, is the winningest coach in program history and led the program to its only national championship in 1990.

McCartney remains the winningest coach in Colorado history, with a record of 93-55-5. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Bill McCartney died on Jan. 10 at the age of 84 after a long battle with dementia and his son, Mike, said this week, “I thought I was ready, because we knew he was dying.”
