The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Turner Simpkins father knew about the abuse and failed to report it to law enforcement.

The girlfriend of Turner’s father, Shannon Leigh Elliott, 27, was indicted in connection with the killing in March of last year. Elliott was convicted of murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse and sentenced to life in prison, according to state prison records.

During the course of the investigation, agents developed information that the child died from chronic blunt force injuries and malnourishment, and the manner of death was homicide.”
