Broccoli packages sold at Walmart stores in 20 states have received an elevated recall status over a Listeria contamination that has potentially fatal consequences.

The recall affects 12-ounce bags of the product, which were sold in 20 states and pose serious health risks if consumed.

When the FDA upgrades a recall, it's time to check your fridge or freezer for that particular product. This broccoli now poses a more serious Listeria risk.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ), 2,023 cases of Great Value, Chicken Broth, sold in 48-ounce containers at Walmart, have been recalled. Each case includes six units of the product, meaning 12,138 cartons of broth were recalled.

Broccoli florets sold in Walmart stores across 20 states that were recalled over bacterial contamination fears have been given the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s highest risk level.
