Utah wrapped up the home portion of its schedule with a 71-69 loss to West Virginia Tuesday night at the Huntsman Center. The Runnin’ Utes ran out to an early double-digit lead, but the visiting Mountaineers rallied to make it a tight game before pulling ahead late and fending off Utah.

Javon Small delivered 18 points and several key plays down the stretch as West Virginia topped its interim coach from last year, Josh Eilert, in a 71-69 victory over Utah on Tuesday in Salt Lake City.

West Virginia and Utah will meet up for the second time this season and it's the Mountaineers who will be looking to pull off the two-game season sweep after winning the first matchup, 72-61, in Morgantown.

West Virginia guard Javon Small has been a nightmare for opposing teams this season. He's the central focus of every scouting report on West Virginia, yet he always finds a way to impact the game, even if he's not scoring 15-20 points.

There can be awkwardness between a coach and his predecessor, but that’s just not the case for WVU’s current head coach Darian DeVries and Josh Eilert, the man he replaced. DeVries even made sure to show his respect for the longtime Mountaineer assistant coach who spent a tough season leading West Virginia on Tuesday night.
