Over 230 migrants were rescued from one flimsy boat on Sunday in seas off Spain's Canary Islands, coastguards said.

Spain's Canary and Balearic islands top the list of EU regions with 83.2 and 61.7 million nights spent in 2023 by foreign tourists, while the Greek island of Zakyinthos and Croatia's Istrian peninsula are those suffering the highest pressure compared to the number of residents.

Against the backdrop of increasing anti-migration sentiment across Europe, Spain's coastguard conducted a rescue operation off the Canary Islands on Sunday, saving 231 migrants, including 14 women and three children, who had crammed into a dangerously overcrowded boat.
