Rail passengers in Lancashire will face major disruption to services on New Year's Eve and this Thursday because of strikes by train managers on Avanti West Coast. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Avanti West Coast will walk out on December 31 and January 2 in a dispute over rest day working.

The operator, which runs services between Glasgow and London, North West England and the West Midlands, is warning passengers to travel either side of Hogmanay and January 2.
