Jessica Pegula is condemned to a group-stage exit from the WTA Finals as she suffers a lacklustre straight-set defeat by Barbora Krejcikova.

Jessica Pegula, who had lost her first two matches and was eliminated from semifinal contention, withdrew from her final match at the WTA Finals with a left knee injury.

World number two Iga Swiatek will play Daria Kasatkina on Thursday in her must-win match to stay in the hunt for a spot in the WTA Finals semi-finals after Jessica Pegula withdrew from the tournament with a knee injury.

In the past two years, Pegula and Krejcikova have split their two head-to-head matches. The most recent one was on February 24, 2023, ending with Krejcikova winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-0.

However, Gauff has played at a much higher level since the US Open and shaking up her coaching staff. On Sunday, Gauff defeated Pegula in straight sets during their Group Stage match at the WTA Finals: 6-3, 6-2.

Jessica Pegula’s late season rally has ended with the world’s No. 6-ranked player withdrawing from the WTA Finals because of a left knee injury. Pegula, who earlier this year rose to a No. 3 world ranking after reaching the U.

Over the past two years, Pegula sports a 3-1 record versus Gauff. Their most recent meeting, in the semifinals of the Bett1open on June 22, 2024, was a 7-5, 7-6 win for Pegula.
