Nov 17, 2009 · Stay away from Genmar Marine, a collection of numerous boat makers. They are so far in debt, many companies are going down the tubes forever. Big names... like Wellcraft, Seaswirl, Four Winns, Hydra Sports, Glastron, Triumph and many more. Genmar is so bad, and debt is so high, bankruptcy might not help.

They are used by the coastguard, navy, RCMP and most of the pros. in this area. Fully welded, galvanized, simple, bullet proof and reasonably priced.

Often the material being used in place of what was traditionally wood components is in fact an inferior product. Notice I said often and many and not always and all.

Sep 6, 2009 · I continue to state that you get a lot for your money in a Bayliner. I think that holds especially true in the 17-18 foot boats when comparing to Sea Ray. If ones budget allows them to buy Sea Rays or other mid-upper level boats that is great. For the original poster he is looking for the best boat for the money.

Jan 7, 2011 · In the '80's, Bayliner earned a really bad reputation by putting out a lot of very poorly constructed boats. I've heard they've come a long way since then. They power their boats with some of the same motors and drives as some of the top boat manufacturers. It's very difficult to overcome a well earned reputation, though; especially a bad one.
