The acclaimed British playwright Tom Stoppard, whose career spanned decades, has died. He was 88. Stoppard won five Tony Awards for Best Play, the first in 1968 for the absurdist twist on Hamlet “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead,” and his last in 2023 for the drama “Leopoldstadt,” which chronicles a family history he only learned about in his 50s when a relative told him that all four of his Jewish grandparents had been murdered by Nazis.
